All about Delhi Comic Con 2024, a grand celebration of pop culture, comics, and creativity (2025)

Comic Con India has grown into a nationwide cultural phenomenon since its humble beginnings as a niche gathering for comic book enthusiasts. Now in its 12th year, it continues to offer a platform that transcends traditional boundaries and unites diverse facets of pop culture under one roof.

What makes this year special

Exclusive goodies: Every attendee receives a No.1 Issue of Radiant Black, a Solo Levelling poster, and a commemorative Comic Con India bag.

Star-studded artist lineup: International artists like Ryan North and Jason Loo will join numerous Indian creators.

Gaming arena: The Nodwin Gaming Arena offers console gaming, VR experiences, and exciting tournaments.

Live performances: Stand-up comedians Ravi Gupta and Rohan Joshi will perform alongside musical acts like Panther and Fotty Seven.

Illustrator, animator, and award-winning indie comics creator Abhijit Kini tells indianexpress.com, “There’s no better platform than Comic Con in our country to promote comics and art. The exposure we get is excellent; for artists, it’s a great place to showcase our work. We know the people attending are inclined to this kind of content. There’s so much amazing work in the comics field in India.”

Sumit Kumar, CEO of Bakarmax, an animation and comics studio, adds, “Comic Cons do what no other litfest or small press expo does. We get to meet the widest, most mainstream audience. A lot of people don’t even know we exist — and once they do, they spend all their money on us! We’ve found many dedicated fans that way.”

Cosplay showcase

Delhi Comic Con 2024 promises an epic cosplay experience featuring hundreds of passionate cosplayers showcasing their creativity and fandom. The event is known for celebrating the art of cosplay, with participants expected to bring characters from comics, anime, gaming, and pop culture to life.

“Cosplay, as always, will be a big draw; I am looking forward to seeing some excellent costumes. We also debuting the Nodwin Gaming Arena, a unique gaming experience. There are some amazing fan experiences and a stellar lineup of comedic and musical performances, and a special appearance by Actor Rana Daggubati,” said Jatin Varma, founder.

Akshat Rathee, co-founder and managing director of NODWIN Gaming, highlights the event’s commitment to cosplay by emphasising, “With three extraordinary days of pop culture, an expanded gaming arena, delicious food, iconic cosplay showcases, exclusive merch, performances from top entertainers and hundreds of cosplayers showcasing their creativity and fandom- the spirit of Delhi shines bright!”

Fans can expect intricate costumes, creative interpretations, and a vibrant display of fan dedication throughout the three-day event.

Indian creative talents

The event features artists and publishers, including Indusverse, Yali Dreams Creations, Prasad Bhat, Garbage Bin, Bullseye Press, Holy Cow Entertainment, Bakarmax, Art of SAVIO, and many more.

Prasad Bhat, artist and founder of Graphicurry, expresses his excitement ahead of the event, mentioning, “I’m very excited to meet my fans in Delhi. The city has always been welcoming, and I’m looking forward to meeting both old and new faces. The energy, the fans, and the chance to see people connect with my art — it’s like a creative recharge.”

“This year, I’m working on something special inspired by a sensational pop icon of our time. It’s a new artwork, and it’s quite unique. Fans will love it. You’ll have to drop by to see it!” he reveals.

Similarly, Sumit, from Bakarmax, unveiled his plans for the event: “This year marks the first time we are returning to the festival with our hardcover books — after last year’s Karejwa launch. We are also soft-launching a new graphic novel by Vivekananda Roy Ghatak called Orin – The Parent Tamer. We might even give audiences a sneak peek at the first few minutes of Aapki Poojita.”

A platform for creativity

Varma reflected on the event’s journey, noting how Comic Con has grown from a dream to a massive celebration of Indian pop culture. “It started as a passion project, a more intimate gathering of fans, and over the years, it has evolved into a gigantic event, bringing in a diverse audience of pop culture fans. It’s truly become a platform that engages with all elements of pop culture. The audience mix also keeps evolving; in the last few years, we have seen many more families and teens in the crowds. The content mix has also changed; fans request much more for live entertainment and unique fan experiences,” he told indianexpress.com.

Abhijit notes how times have changed. “For me, interacting with kids and youngsters who want to show their artworks or portfolios and who want to know more about how comic-making works makes it worthwhile. We didn’t have such opportunities to connect with comic creators when we were in school easily, but now there’s this wonderful platform,” said the artist, who will launch new comic titles, art prints and merchandise this year.
